The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program is an IRS-supported initiative that provides free basic income tax return preparation for qualified individuals.



What is VITA?

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program is an IRS-supported initiative that provides free basic income tax return preparation for qualified individuals. The Urban League’s team of volunteers complete an IRS certification each year to ensure individuals receive an accurate, professional return that includes free electronic filing of both federal and state returns.

Who Does VITA Serve?

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program offers free tax help to households with annual income of $64,000 or less, persons with disabilities, the elderly, and limited English-speaking taxpayers who need assistance in preparing their individual tax returns.

Become a Volunteer

Learn to prepare taxes and make a difference in your community at the same time! Volunteer to help your community by preparing taxes free of charge with the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program.

You will receive training to provide free tax help for low-to-moderate income families who need assistance preparing their tax returns. Training is offered both online and in the classroom. Tax sites are generally open nights and/or weekends and the hours are flexible. Some of the volunteer positions available are: Greeter/Screener, Tax Preparer, Quality Reviewer, and Site Administrator/Coordinator.
