Leadership Transition
📢 Big News! ULGC Board of Directors Announces Leadership Transition
The Urban League Board of Directors recently selected Dr. Reggie Smith as the incoming President & CEO, effective August 11, 2025.
With nearly 20 years of experience in education, nonprofit leadership, and community development, Dr. Smith brings a deep commitment to equity and economic opportunity. As Executive Director of The Bethlehem Center, he has led transformative work in youth development, food security, and holistic community care.
He will succeed Candy Johnson, ULGC’s first female President & CEO, who led the organization through a historic era of growth—including the acquisition of ULGC’s first permanent headquarters, the launch of The State of Black Chattanooga report, and over $10 million in new multi-year investments during her tenure. 🙌🏾
Join us in celebrating Candy’s trailblazing impact and welcoming Dr. Smith this August as we continue building a more equitable Chattanooga! 🖤 As we close out one era of leadership and look to the next, we’re taking time to honor the journey.
To commemorate President Candy Johnson’s impactful tenure, we’ll share “20 Days of Memorable Moments in the Movement” on our social media this July. Join us in celebrating her legacy by donating to support the movement’s continued work on this last day of the fiscal year. 🖤✊🏾
